UNUSUAL JOBS

Old computers look cool and by reusing parts of them we are saving them from landfill. Remember these? Once home and office computers they were shipped by the thousands. We put a sliding glass door on the access side of the one on the right and it takes any micro-ATX motherboard.

Above and right is a Dell Dimension 8400 motherboard. This was their top of the range computer not so long ago. We put it in a standard ATX case and it uses a standard power supply. Its now a LAMP server for web development. Dell went over the top with the cpu cooler but it works well.

Ever wondered if you could put a standard notebook slimline dvd-rw into a G5 iMac? You can but it means some modifications. At left is the cover dvd from a computer magazine. Below is the dvd web page on the G5 screen. Works well and it will never eat a dvd again.
